2024 PNW Section of the Society for Range Management Fall Tour


The BC Chapter presents... "Assessing the Impact, Envisioning the Future", the 2024 PNW Section of the Society for Range Management fall tour. The tour will be hosted in Merritt, BC, from October 1st to 3rd, 2024. We have some excellent topics and projects lined up, including grassland assessment training, discussions around cumulative effects on grasslands, and innovative ranching practices.

There is a room block at the Comfort Inn available until August 25th, 2024. Please call the hotel directly at 250-315-0237 and ask for the Society for Range Management room block - get your rooms as soon as possible! We will be outside for the field tour on October 2nd, please bring appropriate attire and footwear for an outdoor field tour.

Agenda (subject to change):

October 1 -

PNW Board Meeting from 2:00pm - 4:00pm at Comfort Inn and Suites Board Room.

Evening social at the Empty Keg Brewhouse from 6:00pm - 9:00pm. Entertainment will be provided by Rob Dinwoodie and Tim Ross. Tickets include dinner, dessert and 1 drink. A minimum of 30 tickets to this social must be sold in order for it to go ahead, so please get your tickets early if you're interested!

October 2 -

Field Tour from 8:00am - 4:30pm. (Lunch included with ticket, bus transportation option potential depending on interest).

Stop 1: Lundbom, Laurie Guichon Memorial Grassland site with presentation discussing history and significance of the site, followed by grassland health assessment presentations provided by the Grasslands Conservation Council.

Stop 2: Beaver Ranch, Hamilton with presentation by a local rancher discussing history of Guichon (now Beaver) Ranch, the world of ranching and innovative ranching practices.

Stop 3: Stump Lake with presentation by a local rancher on native grassland management under conflicting land uses and disturbance regimes (industry, fire).

Banquet dinner and awards ceremony at Game On Sports Bar and Grill (included with ticket). Please let us know if you have any dietary restrictions. There will also be a silent auction, so if you have items to donate please contact the BC Chapter at bcchaptersrm@gmail.com.

October 3 -

Annual general meeting from 8:00am - 9:00am.

Presentations, poster sessions and wrap up at Comfort Inn and Suites Board Room from 9:00am - 11:00am.
