Organization:

The Small-Scale Meat Producers Association represents British Columbia farmers and ranchers who are raising meat outside of the conventional, industrial system. We are a registered non-profit society made up of primary-producers, processors and supportive individuals and organizations. 

Our mission is to build greater stability and growth opportunities for small-scale meat producers throughout British Columbia.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dynamic and skilled Communications and Member Engagement Coordinator to join our team in this part-time, contract position. The successful person will develop and implement communication strategies that engage, include, and enhance membership growth and participation.  They will provide leadership, creativity and clarity to effectively promote the association’s activities and objectives. The ideal candidate will be passionate about sustainable agriculture and possess a strong understanding of the challenges faced by small-scale meat producers.

While the successful candidate can enjoy a flexible weekly work schedule, there may be a need to be available during occasional evenings and/or weekends for meetings and events.

Organizational Management:

This position reports to the Executive Director.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage communication strategies and campaigns to engage existing members and attract new members.
  • Respond to emails or forward to the appropriate team member. 
  • Manage memberships through our CRM system.
  • Create and distribute a variety of communications materials including newsletters, press releases, email announcements, and promotional materials.
  • Manage and update the association’s website and social media platforms, ensuring content is current, relevant, and engaging.
  • Organize, promote and coordinate events such as workshops, webinars, and conferences that promote member interaction and professional development.
  • Facilitate effective communication channels between the association’s leadership, members, and external stakeholders.
  • Monitor and report to the Executive Director on the effectiveness of communication strategies and adjust plans as needed to improve member engagement.
  • Assist with grant writing and fundraising efforts to support association initiatives.
  • Work together with research and project leads to develop educational materials for program delivery including presentations, webinars, videos, manuals, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, and/or significant, relevant experience in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Agriculture, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of related experience in  communications, preferably within a non-profit or agricultural context.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a proven ability to convey complex information clearly and persuasively.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in digital communication tools and platforms, including content management systems and social media.
  • Knowledge of and passion for sustainable agriculture and meat production.
  • Ability to work independently, co-operatively and as an integral part of a remote but connected team. 

Compensation:
